plan and organize

The Mag 7 Race Series is an all-volunteer organization devoted to supporting and promoting local road racing and healthy living. The Magnificent 7 Race Series was established by Dr. Jerry Ruff in 1997 to promote participation in road races held in the 7 south-central Indiana counties of: Brown, Greene, Jackson, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Owen.

We are also a resource center for race directors and those who are considering planning and organizing a race - whether a 5K, 10K, half-marathon or any distance you want. We are able to provide USAT&F course certification for only $75 a course. We also have access to a large number of race timers, bib number providers, t-shirt printers and awards companies.

website

The primary manner in which the Mag 7 organization supports race directors is through our web site. This web site was created and is managed by volunteers. We do not control any of the races in the series, we only support the activities of each race director.

We do, however, work closely with each director to assure we post the following information prior to every race in the Mag 7 Road Race Series:

  • Event Name
  • Event Date & Time
  • City in which the race is being held
  • The Race Director name and contact information
  • Link to the race flyer if provided to us (usually posted in the .pdf format)
  • Link to any event web site relating to your race
  • Link to online registration if provided by your event

We also provide the following at the completion of each road race (depending on how the race timer delivers the final results):

  • Overall Race Results
  • Age Group Results
full service

In some cases, we can provide full service race planning, organizing and direction. The fee for this service us $9.50 per registered participant with a 100 participant minimum charge.

  • Race Flyer: We will provide a race flyer template - all you do is fill in the information - and we will create a print ready file for either full color or black and white flyers
  • Race T-Shirts: We take care of coordinating the race shirt printing (restrictions on colors and screening location on the shirts)
  • Registration & Bibs (numbers): We will create your registration database and create bibs with participant information printed pre-event
  • Race Timing: You must provide two volunteers to assist at finish line
  • Scoring & Results: Provided to you, the Mag 7, and any local newspaper
  • Mailing List: An Excel document - you are responsible for all mailings/postage
  • More convenient for registrants
  • Allows for secure Credit Card and Debit Card payment
  • Registration fees are immediately deposited to your account OR we can simply hold the funds and provide you with a lump sum payment at the end, minus our administration fee.
  • We make it easy by creating the online registration form for the event

contract basics

We have posted a recent article provided by Road Runners Club of America concerning contract basics of running either a club or an event. It is a good primer to help reduce the possiblity of litigation. This document IS NOT a replacement for legal council, it is only a starting resource. You MUST consult an attorney for specific guidance in the matters discussed in this article. You can download this document HERE.
